How Much Does a Netbook Cost

Cost to Buy Netbook

A Netbook computer is great for younger teenagers to have along with those who just want a recreational laptop, not for school or work. This is because a netbook is much smaller in size than most laptops, starting as small as only 5” diagonally! There is also much less functionality such as there is no CD drive, less battery life, limited ports, and a smaller screen. Of course there are some advantages such as it’s lightweight and they are much less expensive than many full size laptops. The Netbook was first released in 2007 and is great for simple activities such as using the internet, email, videos, and Microsoft Word.

Factor of Cost

Much of the price will be determined by the size, model, and brand of netbook you choose works best for you. Some will have extra features which will cost a bit more and others will be very basic but could fit your budget better. In general, you should be able to find a brand new netbook in the price range of $200 to $550. The higher priced netbooks are almost as good as a full sized laptop but just lack a few features that may or may not matter to you depending on what you need it for.

Most netbooks should have at least one USB port, an internal hard drive, and a keyboard. As far as ports go, most netbooks will only have ports for the charging cable and USB drive; you are lucky if you find one with more options but of course the price will be higher. The fun thing about netbooks is that most come in multiple color and size options so there is a bit of customization control on your part. Some of the colors that Dell offers include black, pink, and blue.

Additional Costs

As previously mentioned, a netbook will generally have much shorter battery life than a regular laptop. This can be inconvenient when out and about so a spare battery could be worth the investment. Be sure to keep it charged so you can just pop it in when the first one is close to running out of charge.

External hard drives as long as external CD drives could be a necessity depending on what you’re using the netbook for. These could cost as low as $50 up to as much as $300 depending on the quality and amount of space you’re looking for. Another additional item you may want to purchase is a carrying bag to protect your netbook from damage along with natural wear and tear. A carrying bag will cost less than the damages that could happen without it!

Ways to Save

Search for used and refurbished models along with sales and coupons. The minimal amount of time it will take you to find a good deal will save you a substantial amount of money in the long run. Most of the time, used and refurbished models are just as good as a brand new laptop. Just be sure if you are purchasing used from websites such as Craigslist that you test it out as much as possible before you pay for it!
