Kitchen Remodeling Cost

cost-to-remodel-kitchenRemodeling a kitchen is typically out of desire not necessity. For this reason, there’s no reason to pick and choose which parts you renovate and just spend the extra cash to complete the entire job at the same time. Typical areas that need improvement in a kitchen include the fridge, sink, stove, cabinets, floor, and walls. If all these are replaced and redone at the same time, expect to not recognize your kitchen. Most of what affects the price of your kitchen remodeling includes the appliance models and brands that you choose, where it is purchase and what additions you choose.

Cost of a Kitchen Renovation

A do it yourself project could be as cheap s $5,000 but hiring a contractor could raise the price to as high as $150,000. If you’re not looking to have your kitchen cost more than your entire house, you can typically keep the price between $15,000 and $30,000 even with hiring a contractor. The price greatly depends on the design, products you choose, and installation costs. If you are having your cabinets replaced, this could account for as much as half the price of the total renovation due to the high cost of quality materials. Custom cabinets will always cost more than stock cabinets.

As far as counters and floors go, there are many different materials these can be constructed out of which can drastically affect the cost of your project. Countertops can go as expensive as granite and quartz or as cheap as ceramic and laminate materials. Ceramic floors are also a cheaper option and tile would be more expensive. When re-doing your kitchen to improve it, choosing the more expensive options may be worth it in the long run.

Additional Costs

Labor costs could more than double your projects budget. When it comes to a contractor, the phrase “you get what you pay for” 100% applies. To hire an experience, talented group of workers, expect to spend at least $5,000-$10,000 just for labor depending on the size and complexity of your project. Contractors will typically charge by how much time they believe will be involved along with how difficult the project is. It’s smart to invest some extra money in a quality business as you will thank yourself every time you walk into your kitchen.

Ways to Lower the Cost

To cut some costs you may have to pick and choose what appliances to replace and which ones to keep. You may want a new refrigerator but at the same time, the one you have right now doesn’t have any substantial defects so you could probably live with it for a couple more years. You can also choose which jobs the contractor does and save some to do yourself. Painting or wallpapering the walls is a pretty simple task and should be something you can handle doing yourself. Removing the trash and even pulling up the old floors are tasks that a homeowner can typically handle themselves as well to save as much as a few hundred dollars in labor costs.
