1. Skin Tests
An allergen causes the allergic reaction in one’s body. Don’t take histamines for 3-5 days before your test appointment.
There are two main types of skin allergy tests:
a) Prick Skin Test
Liquid solution of suspected allergens is placed on the skin of the patient so, body can react with the allergen to give results.
It takes about 10-20 minutes for results.

b) Intradermal Skin Test
In Intradermal skin test, the liquid of suspected allergens is injected under the skin layer.
It takes about 10-20 minutes but, this type of test is more irritating rather than a Prick test.

2) Patch Tests
Patch tests are used to decide whether a specific substance is allergen for the skin of patient. If you are suspected of having dermatitis then your allergist would suggest you this type of test.

3) Blood Tests
Blood tests are performed, if your allergist finds it useful. The test is performed when the body reacts with specific allergen so, IGE levels in the blood is analyzed.
Average cost of allergy blood tests varies from $200 to $1000 without insurance.

4) Spirometry Test
If your symptoms are pointing about Asthma then, you will have gone through spirometry test. It is a lung function test and it is called that Asthma often occurs who have allergies.
5) Food Challenge and Diet Test
In both tests, allergens are recognized by tests.
In food challenge test, specific suspected foods are given to determine type of food allergy. It is only performed in clinic.
In Diet test, your allergist would give you the list of food to avoid for some period of time to see if your health improves. And then a test.

Treatment for the allergy depends on the type of allergy one is having. Majorly it includes:

No, don’t go for it. Some commercial testing kits may attract you but, it is safe to get such tests done under expert’s supervision.
